Hi, new to the world of ev,s and forums so apologies if I am doing this the wrong way.
just took delivery of a ford explorer premium with driver assist.
Brilliant car but with a few problems that I expect are easily fixed but just after some advice.

When I charge the car on a public charger or charger with multiple vehicles the car appears to try and charge them as the output drops to minus (pictures attached I hope)

Took it back to ford and they somehow forced the explorer to connect to fordpass but the app still didn’t communicate with the car and the app thought the car was still parked at the dealership for the next 3 days.

Tried to complete a factory reset. Says something went wrong please try again later and won’t reconnect to fordpass

Anyone else had similar issues. I didn’t even know the explorer was capable of bidirectional charging but it has the option on the charging screen so I assume this could be what it is trying to do any advice greatly appreciated

Thx
Paul.

Hi,
Since the Explorer is based on the VW MEB platform and, for example, the ID4 will come with BiDi shortly, the Explorer should follow suit. In any case, you can be happy to be able to activate FordPass ;-). Neither I nor the dealer have been able to do that despite factory Sync reset, etc. In addition, my rear parking sensors alert me that they are not clean every now and then. My car was built on October 2nd and delivered on November 20th. Sad that they didn't manage to fix rudementary software bugs even though the model was delayed a year. They should have had time, one might think, with an extra year.

That’s a coincidence mine too has a build date of 2nd October but delivered 12th November however the VIN appears to indicate that it was built in January 2024.
Not 100% sure the below is accurate but maybe worth a check.
It shows the option on charging information to register a bidirectional charger.

Hi,
According to that matrix, my car is manufactured in September 2024 and considering that I got the VIN number already in July, it must be considered quite correct because the body needs a few extra days to dry after painting before the assembly takes place, so I guess they mean that the car starts produced when the body parts begin to be pressed and painted.
When we visited the factory in Cologne at the beginning of September, for some reason we never got to see the final quality control and rollout, only as far as finished after the marriage of the chassis and the body and a little more. The reason puzzled our guide but muttered something about that part of the factory being completely newly built and not yet suitable for visitors.
At the time, they only produced 300-400 cars a day and the production line stood still more than it moved. Whether it was due to issues during final quality control or ramping up production or declining sales, I don't know. Perhaps all these factors. Anyway, I like the car a lot. Too bad the best Ford so far is a VW ;-). Or as the ID4 guys say on their forum. The best ID4 so far is a Ford ;-))

Wife took delivery of her new select extended range last week (I’m a motorcycle only husband).

Love the car but….

Connectivity to FordPass remains elusive despite 5 hours in the dealer via 2 separate visits inside the first week of ownership.

Dealer stumped and as escalated today (assume to Ford UK). They suggested this might be a hardware fault but reading the comments on here I wonder whether the car has been sold with a known software bug?

They’ve promised to report back what Ford says, happy to share on an anonymous dealer basis when it arrives if that helps?

Mine has now been back at the dealers for the last 7 days. They have forced fordpass to connect by using the odb. It will work until it’s driven away and then lock location and no functionality. Well that’s what happened last few times will understand more when they eventually return it. Great to drive and look at but about as much use as a paperweight in its current state. Will update when/if I take it back

Still after 14 days of ownership and multiple factory resets of Sync4, Fordpass refuses to activate. Instead, the rear parking sensors have gone on strike a bit whenever they want. My dealer cannot fix the problems and they are considering replacing the communication modem but also the control unit for the parking sensors. They are waiting for the go-ahead from the Ford tech center here in Portugal.

Back to the dealer today to try a complete comms software reinstall. They tried 3 times but to no avail. The car and FordPass stubbornly refuse to communicate with each other.

Dealership says they’ve exhausted every avenue they can think of (3 visits now) short of hardware replacement (comms modem). Given that they said a replacement unit would apparently cost £2000 they were unsure how long this might take.

The car is otherwise fully drivable and we are happy with that side of things. It will nevertheless be illuminating to understand how big an issue this is.

The dealer said that his regional manager has just taken delivery of his Explorer and has exactly the same problem!!

Today I went to my dealer to have the problem with activating Fordpass fixed (after I got an SMS from them). 40-50% of the Explorer EV they sold have this problem!! Ford now requires that the dealer activate Fordpass before delivery in order to pay out some form of delivery bonuses to the dealer, but the dealer cannot activate Fordpass for some customers because there is a fault with the cars, so the dealer is not very happy with Ford right now. And Ford doesn't seem to understand what the problem is. In any case, Ford does not seem to want to replace the com module. If this is a firmware or software problem, more cars should be affected and this should be able to be solved with OBD upgrade. And if that doesn't help, then it is a hardware error. In my case OBD reload did not work. And since I can't activate Fordpass, I also can't take advantage of the one year of free public charging that is included from Ford :(

I have been given an appointment on January 10th to have a hardware replacement. It was not clear what kind of hardware. Hope it works out after that.
Any news from the rest of you?
