I am close to buying a Ford Explorer and am trying to figure out if paying over £1000 is worthwhile for a heat pump. I live in the UK so not experiencing really cold temperatures in this part of the world. Having a really good mileage range is important to me so my question is will the heat pump improve significantly on the range of the vehicle despite adding additional weight to the car. I would plan to use climate control normally throughout the year as you would do in a normal ICE vehicle. Any views on this would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect it really depends on your particular circumstances. Potential buyers have to consider how many miles they will do - how long will they keep the car for - how often will they use preconditioning.
I also think that you would "save" at best 10/20 miles over the course of a full charge (Just my best guesstimate; happy to be proved wrong) So not that much really, but over the lifetime of the car maybe worthwhile. Also, heat pumps are desirable things to have in a EV, so come time to sell, you may find that a car with a heat pump will sell more easily, and you might even get a few quid back on your outlay...

I do have a heat pump on mine and do not regret it.
