Hi All,
I finally took delivery of my new Explorer AWD Premium on Friday having ordered it at the end of June. I've moved over from an Audi E-Tron having finally got fed up of dealing with rip-off dealers and over-priced add-ons.
Didn't want to regret missing out on an option so I specced everything except the tow bar and overall I'm pretty happy with the result.
I'm currently trying to source a Thule Roof Rack for the car and have been told by Thule that they don't currently make one nor, do they have any plans to. Undeterred I have ordered a generic Ford footpack for my Evo Wing Bars which will hopefully clamp on OK.
The Ford Pass app is also pretty underwhelming. At the very least I expected a few controls around the pre-conditioning, timers, cabin temps, heated seats etc. Instead you get a single button to either turn it on or off with all other preferences being set on the in-car SYNC system in advance. I'm kinda hoping a subsequent update might add a bit more functionality. A few controls to set charge levels might be a nice idea too and maybe even a warning if the alarm is triggered all of which I half expected to be there already.
The usual issues with the wireless charging pad are still there as well but the VW forums are littered with helpful suggestions how to improve intermittent charging. Most of them seem to suggest using a wire !
Other than those few things, the car is great and I've got a few adventures planned in it over the next few months including the NC500 just to give it a proper shakedown.
That's it really. Just wanted to say Hi.

Collected an Explorer for parents over the weekend.
Similarly disappointed by the "lack" of App content but what a nice car to drive.

.. I took delivery of mine a week ago. Pleased so far.. apart from the app. I can not believe that you can’t precondition the car from the app!
Is this really true? The guy at the dealership doesn’t think so.
Apparently they are aware of a problem with the locking unlocking icons missing from the app.
I have a 650 mile trip planned next week… the car says I will be interested to see what the real economy is on a long trip

Glad your enjoying it so far.
You can turn on pre-conditioning using the app but it only conditions to the presets you have inputted in the car. I would have expected to be able to have at least set the cabin temp to something different.
As far as range/economy goes, I'm reasonably pleased. I opted for the AWD with a WLTP of 329m. As with most EVs, I wasn't expecting anything close to that and, as I also opted for the 21" wheels, I knew that would have an impact on range as well. In the end I'm getting around 3.1 miles per kwh with mixed driving and the occasional heavy right foot. That equates to an overall range of around 245 miles but I think I could probably up that to around 260 in the Summer.
I also opted for the Heatpump so I'm hoping that will mitigate the inevitable reduction of efficiency in the coming winter months.
I would expect the RWD version to do a bit better than that but I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences.

Hi Andy
Unfortunately not yet but investigations are ongoing. Thule tell me they don't make one. Having seen the Explorer pictured with a roof rack on the Ford website I emailed them to ask where I could buy one. They sent a very nice email back telling me they don't make one yet but I could have £100 voucher towards one in case they do in the future !
Having done a bit of research I have a suspicion that the Thule rack for the Ford Focus may well fit but I haven't got round to ordering one yet to give it a go. I'll report back if I have any success.
