Full reviews for the Explorer are now starting to appear. I'll round up the ones I can find below:

AutoCar:
Superior to all major rivals to drive, the Tesla included, and recognisable as a Ford. While Ford may not be the UK’s number-one brand any more in terms of sales, its dealer network remains vast and the Explorer will end up being many people's first electric car.

On that basis alone, it makes a very good stepping stone, with its impressive range and ultimately easy-going and enjoyable-to-drive nature.

Electrifying:
One of the best cars in the class to drive, and it’ll be peachy to live with as a family car. There are rivals that cost less and have longer warranties, but the Ford is still really recommendable.

Car:
Why this rather than an ID. 4? For our money it looks better. It loses out on boot space but it drives in a more engaging way and rides in a more composed manner.

Why this rather than a Mustang Mach-E? This is slightly taller, not quite as long, with a bigger rear boot; it’s properly SUV shaped, whereas the Mach-E is a weird crossover/pony mash-up. Which probably makes the Mach-E more of an ID. 5 rival, although objectively they’ll all in the same ballpark.

Until we’ve compared it back to back with its rivals, we shouldn’t rave. But driven in isolation, the Explorer is a very impressive package: good to drive, smart, well equipped and competitively priced. And, frankly, better than any current electric VW.

Auto Express:
Ford has brought back the Explorer name and borrowed the Volkswagen MEB platform but the resulting Ford Explorer feels like a fresh start in the EV space for the brand. Efficient with long range figures, a practical interior and a well-judged driving experience, it can mix-it with the top mid-size electric SUVs on today’s market. Only some ambitious pricing and a few control interface niggles really hold it back.
